Research Councils UK Office in India

Background

In a rapidly changing global environment, new economic powers are fast developing; India is a key emerging economy. The Indian Government is ever expanding and developing its higher education sector and its investment into the development of high quality research and training institutes. Indian research institutions are increasingly recognised as being of world class standard and the volume of India - UK research collaborations continues to increase.

In January 2008, the Prime Ministers of both countries reiterated their commitment to increasing UK and Indian research, which has led to the creation of an India based Research Councils UK (RCUK) Office, co-located within the British High Commission, New Delhi.

Role of the RCUK Office in India

The UK Research Councils have established a RCUK Office in India to bring about a step change in strategic level engagement and collaboration between the Research Councils and Indian research funding organisations. The Office will work equally on behalf of all Research Councils to identify and facilitate new research collaborations in priority areas across the breadth of the research base.
